The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This game continued for a few more days. But, one morning, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the town only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the results of false alarms.
The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is tough to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was in the past.
